THE “WHAT”
Sea salt is produced from the evaporation of current seawater. Pink Himalayan sea salt, known as “pink gold”, is an unrefined form of Himalayan crystal salt that comes from naturally formed sea and mountain beds. It is commonly found in the Himalayas, Mediterranean, and Hawaiian islands!
THE “WHY”
Unlike table salt, sea salt contains over 90 health-promoting trace minerals, including phosphorus, bromine, boron, zinc, iron, manganese, copper and silicon. It’s not processed like table salt, making it free of anti-clumping agents, some of which include aluminum and fluoride, and bleaching chemicals such as chlorine. As a result, pink sea salt, much like grey sea salt, is not toxic to the body like table salt is, and has been found to be essential to almost all physiological functions.
Pink sea salt is an important source of chloride. Chloride is a mineral that is necessary for producing HCL, hydrochloric acid, in the body. HCL is needed for the digestion of proteins. Without proper HCL production, food sits in the digestive system leading to a host of issues ranging from eczema, acne, fatigue, acid reflux, bloating, and indigestion.
Sea salt is also the best known natural electrolyte source. Electrolytes have so many important functions — from regulating your heartbeat to allowing your muscles to contract to regulating fluid balance within the body. Sea salt in moderation can help in avoiding this electrolyte imbalance that can cause a host of negative effects.
Finally, the consumption of sea salt is necessary for nerve transmission, energy production, skin and digestive health, an alkaline pH, and kidney health. The introduction of sea salt can be used to remedy constipation, muscle cramps and insomnia, improve hair growth and bone density, reduce stress and inflammation, improve skin quality, reduce thirst, aid in weight loss, and be a part of reducing asthma symptoms #SodiumForTheWin
THE “HOW”
Search for unrefined sea salt and make sure that “sodium chloride” is not an ingredient on the label along with other sneaky additives. Two of our favorites are Celtic Sea Salt, with its moistness and grey hue, and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, known for its beautiful translucent pink color. Add sea salt to fresh fruit (like watermelon), sprinkle it into some homemade chocolate to add an extra dimension of taste, add it to water for a natural electrolyte infused sports drink, or simply add it atop any dish to enhance taste & positively impact your health!
THE “80 WAY”
Our dishes contain various homemade spice blends, curries, dressings, and sauces that contain sea salt in moderation — Just enough to make itself known and enhance the flavor and health benefits of your meal! #SaltAndSpiceAndEverythingNice
